Volunteer Code of Conduct

The Whakatāne Kiwi Trust is grateful to have many active volunteers who spend countless hours helping to protect our precious taonga and other local species.

As most of our volunteers at some point will interact with other Whakatāne Kiwi Trust volunteers and the public we want to ensure they are aware of the Whakatāne Kiwi Trusts expected etiquette.

This document outlines to volunteers the standards of conduct required.

Expected volunteer behaviour

At all times, we expect our volunteers to:

  •      Be respectful to others ideas, views and contributions

  •      Volunteer in good faith for the trust, understanding and upholding our vision of the trust

  •      Work within the boundaries of your skills and training – be aware of your limits and accept help where given

  •      Be present at agreed times, ensure you communicate otherwise with your team leader or volunteer coordinator

  •      Be realistic about the time available to volunteer and carry out agreed tasks – safely

  •      Comply with all Whakatāne Kiwi Trust health and safety requirements

  •      Tell your team leader or coordinator of any issues or concerns you may have

  •      Respect the privacy of others and only use confidential information for the purposes of which it was intended

  •      Report any injuries or property damage

  •      Comply with New Zealand laws

  •      Have fun!

Unacceptable volunteer behavior

  •      Act in a way that may bring the trust into disrepute (including use of email, social media and engaging with the media)

  •      Engage in an activity that may cause physical or mental harm of another person such as verbal, physical or sexual abuse, racial harassment or bullying.

  •      Be affected by alcohol, medication or non prescription drugs that may affect your performance of your duties as a volunteer

  •      Falsify or change any documents or records

  •      Provide a false or misleading statement, declaration or claim

  •      Engage in criminal activity whilst carrying out trust volunteer work

  •      Seek any offers, gifts, rewards or benefits

Breaches of Code of Conduct

The trust will investigate any code of conduct issues reported, in a prompt manner with clear communications with all parties involved, in order to resolve issues in a timely manner.

Breaches of the Code of Conduct may lead to a notification of unacceptable behaviour and a warning depending on the situation, if warranted (serious misconduct) the trust may ask for an immediate stand down and the end of your services as a volunteer for the trust.

Accountability

The Whakatāne Kiwi Trust holds itself accountable in all we do. All trust business, management and activities are conducted in accordance with our constitution and the formal agreements we have with stakeholders and funders.
