Bush, biodiversity & telemetry: join the kiwi data monitoring team on a guided tour
Take an exclusive walk through the Whakatāne and Ōhope Scenic Reserves, and on a private tour of the Whakatāne and Ōhope Scenic Reserves and assist with the daily data collection of our monitored kiwi birds.
This private tour offers a rare glimpse into daily kiwi conservation efforts—without disturbing the birds—using telemetry to track their behavior and health.
What to Expect: We’ll travel to our scenic reserve areas in our kiwi truck, stopping for guided walks into the bush to gather valuable data from transmitters on monitored kiwi. Along the way, you’ll learn about the Whakatāne Kiwi Project, spot native plants, birds, and insects, and take in stunning coastal scenery.
